A Team With One Focus You

Barclays Infrastructure Funds is a funds management business that has been operating since 1996. It focuses on investment in social infrastructure projects in the UK and continental Europe and renewable energy projects with a similar risk and return profile.

Social infrastructure projects include the construction, long term maintenance and management of core public infrastructure such as:

  • Primary and secondary schools
  • Community healthcare facilities and larger acute hospitals
  • Emergency services facilities
  • Local and central government offices

The renewable energy schemes it has targeted include:

  • Offshore Transmission Owner concessions (OFTOs)
  • Photovoltaic plants
  • Wind farms

Projects are bid and awarded following an open and competitive tendering process complying with the relevant European Union rules on public procurement. Most projects are competed for, and undertaken by, consortia of companies. The reason for this is that, in general, no single company can easily fulfil all the criteria of the relevant concession agreement on their own, which typically include the requirement to design, build, finance and operate a new asset or operate, maintain and finance existing assets. Our business is therefore based on partnership – with our public sector clients and our private sector partners.
